Its interventions seek to address the root causes of food insecurity, build resilience among vulnerable communities in Guinea and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
WFP’s efforts are aligned with national priorities (Plan national de développement économique et social 2016-2020 and Programme de référence intérimaire de la transition 2022-2025) and place a particular emphasis on women and youth. This approach also aims to increase national ownership by enhancing institutional capacities.
Food is at the heart of the WFP’s work and the Supply Chain Unit in the Country Office (CO) in Conakry. It results in WFP’s global recognition as the logistics lead in support of the wider humanitarian community through the effective delivery of assistance to vulnerable people. WFP in Guinea responses to these criteria.
The Supply Chain unit of the WFP Country Office in Conakry, Guinea is seeking to fill a Logistics Intern position. While the Intern is expected to work integrated within the supply chain team and to participate in all supply and daily logistics activities, the main duties will consist in the update of the Logistics Capacity Assessment format.
The Logistics Capacity Assessment (LCA) contains baseline information on the logistics capacity of countries relevant for humanitarian emergency preparedness and response and are published and hosted on an online platform by WFP for the use of the wider humanitarian community, often recognized as the members of the Global Logistics Cluster.

Why work with us?
Although rich in natural resources, Guinea faces major socio-economic challenges. The poverty rate is alarming, and 21.8 % of households are food insecure. Malnutrition remains high: 6.1 % of children under 5 are affected by global acute malnutrition, 24.4 % are stunted, and 12 % are underweight.
Rural populations are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity. Among those affected by severe food insecurity, 71.1 % practice subsistence farming. Smallholder farmers comprise the majority of the country’s poor, showing a correlation between poverty and food insecurity. Besides, they have poor access to seeds and fertilizers, production and processing equipment, storage facilities, basic infrastructure and affordable financial services. Although women play a crucial role in agriculture, particularly in food production, they have difficulties in accessing land and productive resources, education, formal employment and income-generating activities. Their work is often unpaid and undervalued. Women make up 60 % of people suffering from chronic hunger, and the majority of rural people living in poverty.
